Citi Credit Card Rewards Program: Earning and Deduction Rules

This article explains the rules for earning and deducting points within the Citi Credit Card Rewards Program, helping cardholders maximize their benefits.

1. Points are earned through eligible purchases. For example, spending RMB 1 on Citi Gift Cards earns 1 point, while spending US$1 earns 7 points. Note that some merchant categories are excluded from earning points. Citi reserves the right to modify the points accumulation method at any time.

2. Purchases that do not earn points include:

The standard credit card fee, interest payments, late fees, overdraft charges, and other related fees.

Transactions involving cash withdrawals, transfers, or third-party payment platforms.

Certain categories like real estate, automobile sales, medical services, education, government fees, fines, taxes, and others listed in the official Merchant Category Code table. These are subject to change based on official updates.

3. Eligibility for points is determined by the merchant category code (MCC) assigned by the merchant's point-of-sale system. If there is a mismatch between the MCC and actual merchant type, please verify with the merchant or your bank. Points are awarded based on the MCC set by the merchant's POS unless otherwise specified.

4. If a purchase is returned, all points earned, including bonus points, will be deducted. If points were redeemed for gifts before deduction, this may result in negative points balance, which will be reflected on your statement.
